About Our Center
Berea Senior Citizens Center is part of the Parks and Recreation Complex located at 214 West Jefferson Street across from the city park. We are an active center that welcomes new members as well as our friends who have been with us for a long time. Our center motto is “Where Friends Meet Friends”.
At Berea Senior Citizens Center, seniors can get information and referrals to programs that are available in the community. We connect seniors with a variety of community resources, such as housing, heating assistance , transportation, Medicare and other available programs.
A monthly calendar is published at the beginning of every month, listing all planned activities for that month. The Congregate Meal menu is on the reverse side of the calendar.
Physical Fitness is encouraged. Exercise classes are Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:00 AM to 10:00AM. These classes are structured and lead by a volunteer. Participants exercise at their own level.
We have walking trails and parks in the area, and we take walks when the weather permits.
We also have a room with exercise equipment, that is available during operating hours.
We are in process of planning and offering a Yoga Class on Thursday afternoons.
Blood Pressure Clinics are on the first Monday of each month.
A Dulcimer Class meets on Tuesday afternoons from 1:00-4:00 for instruction on playing this unique and lovely Appalachian instrument. Participants bring their dulcimers. There are a limited number of loaner dulcimers as well, for those who do not yet have their own dulcimer.
There is an active Homemakers Group that meets every second Monday of the month.
The acrylic and oil painting class will be starting back and plans to meet on Thursday’s from 10:00-2:00.
Transportation to the center is provided by the City of Berea and KY River Foothills Transit. This bus picks up passengers at a number of stops in Berea , one being the Berea Senior Citizens Center. The cost of a bus ticket is $1.00. A date is stamped on the ticket and the rider can get on and off the bus as many times as they wish. Berea Senior Citizens Center will provide a bus ticket for participants to ride the bus to and from the center. Passengers in wheel chairs can be accommodated, but need to make arrangements in advance. Kentucky River Foothills has a transit system that can offer transportation to other locales. Clients need to schedule these requests in advance.
