Infrastructure Development
BGADD plays a vital role in supporting the development and maintenance of critical water and wastewater infrastructure across Central Kentucky. Following the passage of Senate Bill 409 in 2000, the Kentucky General Assembly directed Area Development Districts to work with the Kentucky Infrastructure Authority (KIA) to implement a comprehensive water management program aimed at extending reliable public water service to all households.
As part of this initiative, BGADD facilitates the Water Management Council, a multi-county planning body responsible for developing long-term supply plans, identifying system needs, and prioritizing projects for funding. The Council brings together utility providers, engineers, local officials, and funding agencies to ensure that resources are used effectively and that communities have the infrastructure needed to support growth and protect public health.
Our services include:
- Coordinating Water Management Council activities and maintaining committee records.
- Creating and maintaining project profiles and utility system data in Kentucky's Water Resource Information System (WRIS)
- Assisting with project prioritization for legislative and state funding programs.
- Administering construction projects in partnership with utilities and engineers.
- Serving as a liaison among local governments, utilities, and funding sources.
Through these efforts, BGADD ensures that water and wastewater systems remain safe, reliable, and sustainable, helping communities plan for future growth while protecting vital natural resources.
