Hazard Mitigation Planning
Hazard Mitigation Planning
BGADD is responsible for developing Hazard Mitigation Plans to help communities reduce disaster risks and secure funding for resiliency projects. These plans, required under the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 (DMA 2000), ensure that counties and cities have a comprehensive strategy to identify hazards, assess vulnerabilities, and prioritize actions that protect residents, infrastructure, and critical assets.
In Kentucky, Area Development Districts are responsible for preparing and updating these plans every five years for those communities within their region. For BGADD, this includes Anderson, Bourbon, Boyle, Clark, Estill, Franklin, Garrard, Harrison, Jessamine, Lincoln, Madison, Mercer, Nicholas, Powell, Scott, and Woodford Counties. By maintaining up-to-date hazard mitigation plans, our region remains eligible for federal disaster assistance while building long-term resilience against future events.
